MACHU PICCHU

We arrived on Friday on a slow train. Staying in Agua Caliente 30 minutes by bus no taxis available for anyone. Hotel on a hill but with great view of a mountain shaped like Wayna Pichu. Went up on Fri for3 hours..lots of climbing and beautiful. Sat, we took bus at 7:30...fewer tourists than we thought but many.  Kevin got to see the house where he spent 2 weeks in 1969 and was thrilled to be back.  I loved the place for its beauty and preservation of architecture fashioned from stone and existing large rocks. Fascinating place...

Sorry...1 duplicate photo but welook so good!

Corpus Christi2/Cusco

Kevin and I separated to view this spectacular event which is slow moving as the carriers of the heavy statues of the saints must rest for about 10 minutes. There is lots of people watching available in this carnival atmosphere. We walked up a different street for great scenic overlook.  Last photo is of courtyard at.our hotel which also.overlooks the city...we climbed up several times!

Train to Cusco2

Train to Cusco

Andean explorer luxury service but much slower than the bus..
It was a great day!  Nothing like a train snaking it's way through various scenery and past people shepharding in the fields and later through towns where stalls are set up right at the tracks. They waved at us and sometimes first! We were entertained on board by music and dancing by groups from Puno then Cusco.  We met a couple from England who had shared a bird location in Puno 6/15....had a great time hanging out with them! We made a stop as well at a beautiful location.  Nice service and we are glad we took the slow route!

Cuzco: Corpus Christi part 1

The statues arrived at the Cathedral today. We were lucky enough to see many of them and the concurrent celebrations. Great day!

Puno show

6/13 to a Puno culture show with music and dance. Terrific!
On 6/14 we took a hi speed boat to 2 islands , one made entirely of reeds. This photo is not great but gives you a bit of an idea..a very small island..very commercial which keeps them going. The other island had a steep hill to climb...yes, we made it! Interesting day!

6/12 Puno

6/12 flew to Juliaca near Puno. We stopped in Lampas a charming town with church with life size figures of The Last Supper, a copy of thePieta over a cylinder lined with real skeletons and skulls! Next we birdwatched and saw 2 Chilean flamingoes. Next to Sillustani an Inca burial site on the top of a hill. The reward was the photo with island. I photoed the tombs as well. The last photo is our entrance to Puno and infamous Lake Titicaca
GREAT DAY!

6/10 /14 to Laguna Salinas

We went to Laguna Salinas in hopes of seeing flamingos.....no luck but  although the road was dusty we had a great time! Great views of several volcanos including one letting off steam! Saw several birds on the hard bogs located off a small native village with most exciting bird: Andian flicker. No trees but the eat off of the bog!  We also observed but could not photo native women doing laundry and spinning llama wool. The flamingoes come back with the rain. A pic to prove we are here!
