Puerto Varas220to222

Note 1000 year Alerce tree like the redwood.  Also street entertainers including a hurst gurdy again! Loved those tiled benches in PM!
7 hour bus trip to Puerto Varas Chile which passed quickly as we were off the bus at both border stations. Rain was torrential but stopped in PV. Nice town settled by Germans..see depiction murals on school..took guided bird tour and bus to Puerto Montt which has a ferry to Puerto Natales that Alissa took.

219Barilochesights

Tour to LiaoLiao a hotel built by national park on an iconic area of Bariloche due to superb scenery where water and land and mountains meet in interesting patterns. Both FDR and Obama have stayed there. We got an overview of the area by going up on a chairlift. Day very windy and we walked around lake in city after.

The was a crooked street in Bariloche...It rained on and off on our first day which we spent finding our way around from our hilltop hotel to check out the cathedral and bus station.next day we took a tour of the 7 lakes which goes around lake to Angostura and on to 7 more lakes ending at St Martin of the Andes. Very rainy day..did have full arc rainbows, both towns were built with alpine themes and are tourist traps!
Spanish speaking commentary.. we got the gist...there was a crooked street in city itself.

ParadeinElCalafateontoBariloche

Walked to downtown and stumbled on a celebration for140 of this town..there speeches even in the drizzle and parade with all municipal vehicles including cement trucks etc. This fireman was very friendly!

We took a tour bus to El Chaiton an icon of Patagonia. We were able to see it fairly clearly as we approached and photoes taken from overlook. Spent 5 hours in town walking to waterfall 6 km.
