California /Oregon 8/30-9/20 2016

Arrived in San Francisco and drove to Palo Alto where we had dinner with an old friend of Kevin's who we have kept in touch with. Drove to the coast, rt 1 the following day and north over the Golden Gate Bridge up to Petaluma after a stop in Stanford to see the Lou Henrt Hoover bldg Herbert's wife.

9/3 -9/4 up to Crescent City

I never knew that Crescent City was so pretty or that it had seal lions!

Drove up to Crescent City stopping in Trinidad and stopping to see an elk parade. Very nice to meet 6 Morgan cousins I had never met! It was so nice of them all to come and to entertain us!

9/5 north to Oregon

Drove to a nice state park with redwoods then up to Oregon Caves where we stayed in the Lodge pictured here. Took a tour the next day.

9/6 to Ashland

After a tour of the Caves, on to Ashland where we enjoyed the tourist aspect but too late for the Shakespeare.  Second photo comes at Crater Lake oops!

9/7-8on to Rogue River and Crater Lake

We found the Rogue River gorge luckily...very pretty stop on rt 62 on our way to Lodge at Diamond Lake then on to beautiful Crater Lake. Stopped at many viewpoints there.

9/8-9 Diamond Lake and south

Left beautiful Diamond Lake after 2 nights and spent much of the next day at Crater Lake. The Pinnacles volcanic formations was a highlight!

9/9-11 journey South

Drove to Klamath Lake staying overnight then birdwatching at the Wildlife refuge. On to Lava Beds NP for some awesome lava tubes at Skull Cave! Stayed west of there then went to Susanville before heading south. The fire was west of there.

9/17-9-19 San Francisco

We drove on rt 49 to 140 to 99 which was clogged up so took 132 to 580 to airport to return car. Van to city and our small room at Hotel Fitzgerald 2 blocks from Union Square. Walked to Symphony Sat night and back ...lots of sketchiness. Spent Sunday walking around and at SF MOMA which was splendid. To Embarcadero then Chinatown and walked to Nob Hill and down to hotel after!  Monday we ferried to Sausalito and back, stopped at Fisherman's Wharf. Took Cable Car after an hour wait calmed by a street singer. Fun ride..I rode on outside a couple of blocks with one hand and foot! GREAT TRIP! Home 9/20!
